Jan Tenery

Becoming an artist was Jan’s earliest childhood dream.

Education and job opportunities led her into a career in healthcare, yet she constantly looked for ways to work as a freelance artist. She designed business cards and T-shirts for local clubs and organizations, menus for restaurants, advertisements for her various employers on the East coast, and painted murals in the homes of her more free-spirited bosses. Even a vacation to Kenya turned profitable when a traveling companion invited her to illustrate a book he was writing about the trip.

After retiring to Arizona in 1999, Jan began to realize her dream of being a full-time artist. For 12 years she created and sold art from her own studio, in conjunction with the woodworking shop that she and her husband operated. Now a full-time resident of Oracle, Jan participates in the Oracle Artist Studio Tour and the Holiday Art Market, as well as exhibits at Trowbridge Hall. jantenery13@gmail.com

Kiki Welfel

I grew up on a 160 acre diversified farm in eastern Washington and had what I now know was an idyllic childhood. My interest in art began the Christmas that I was 4 years old. My Dad made us kids a chalkboard from a 4'x8' piece of wallboard! "Santa" filled it with beautiful stenciled Christmas scenes while we were sleeping and I was just in awe with it and wanted to do that too! My parents, grandparents and teachers were always very supportive of my interest in art and when I was in my 20's was very lucky to study under William Pogue, a retired sign painter who taught himself to paint in oils and shared his knowledge by teaching classes in his home studio. Most of the paintings on display were done in his classes and were gifts to family members who are now deceased. After years away from painting, I am trying to paint with acrylics and watercolors, and am rediscovering my love of oils! My husband and I moved here in 2015. I love living here in Oracle where there are so many talented artists who support and encourage each other!
